The blind spot is that area behind your vehicle and on either side where your side mirrors are incapable of detecting anything. If you are intending to make a turn or change lanes while driving, another vehicle in the blind spot can ruin your day. The most common way to detect a problem in the blind spot is to quickly glance back over your shoulder while making the lane change or turn, but that can be unsafe to do.
The Ford Blind Spot Information System uses sensors to detect any vehicles in the blind spot area and then to give you a flashing light alert on your mirror. This also allows you to keep your focus on the front part of your visual pattern while you are driving.
When you are backing out of a driveway the Blind Spot portion of the device switches to the Cross Traffic Alert system. This detects any cross traffic within 145 feet so you won't back into traffic.
