"Truck customers are constantly looking to improve their productivity for work and for play," said Joe Hinrichs, president of Global Operations at Ford Motor Company. The 2018 Ford F-150 delivers.

The refreshed model brings boosts to horsepower and torque for its base V6 engine, 2.7-liter EcoBoost, and 5.0-liter V8 engine options, and is introducing the first-ever diesel engine to be available for the F-150 line.

While we don't yet have numbers for the 3.0-liter Power Stroke Diesel, Ford is likely introducing it to directly compete with the 3.0-liter EcoDiesel available on the Ram 1500—currently the only light-duty truck with a diesel option. Knowing Ford's reputation for industry-leading truck capability, they probably won't put the diesel engine into production until its output matches or beats Ram's.

The two biggest advantages of diesel engines are better torque and fuel economy, which are same benefits that can be had with a turbocharged engine. If you can't wait for the diesel engine specs to be released, you might like the High Output 3.5-liter EcoBoost V6, which offers a staggering 450 horsepower and 510 pound-feet torque.
